About Me

Hi, and welcome to this new weblog.

I will use this weblog to express my opinion concerning what’s happening to Apple Inc. This is a company I always liked. I’ve bought a Mac Plus 20 years ago, and it was my first Mac. But it was my last my for quite a while, since I switched to PCs for my computer studies. Macs were not very used in the computer programming courses, so PC was a logical choice at the time.

When Windows 3.11 came in, I used it, and Windows version up to Windows XP in late 2001. Windows never was the Mac replacement I wanted it to be. In the mean time, I saw Steve Jobs doing NeXT and was impress by what I saw there. But NeXT never became the company industry leader that I was hoping it for, and the computers were not cheap to buy.

In 2001, I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon CoolPix 995. Then my studies in computer science were completed, and I was working. I wanted to “play” with my computer and my digital pictures. I then realized that Windows XP was a poor choice for managing a lot digital pictures. One of my co-worker was using a Mac, and since I did not lots hope in Apple, I was interested in what he was saying to me. I also looked at the Linux side, but was always disappointed.

I’ve then start to go into Apple resellers store in Montreal, where I lived at the time, and was looking at the Mac’s NeXT revised interface. I like it so far. It was then Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar that just came out, and it was nice to use. I also found out that iPhoto would be a great help for managing my pictures library. In December 2001 I entered one store, and bought 2 eMacs, since my mother expresses the need to have a computer for herself at the time. I never regretted this decision so far.

Since then, the Mac passes by Panther, Tiger and Leopard. In the meantime, I bought myself a digital camcorder (I’m now with an HD one), and been doing personal movies and peoples who looked at them like the results. I’ve even been told they were professional looking, and I’m only using iLife for them, so… Snow Leopard, coming later this year, will make it even better. For my photography workflow, I switched to Aperture 2.1.3 recently. I have an original iPod touch always with me. Nice music player, but much more better kind of modern PDA than anything I had in the past.

I’m also collecting Macs for my personal pleasure. I’m trying to see what I missed in the years I was on the PC. Honestly, it looks to me like if the 90s’ for Apple was a nightmare. But it is still fun to see what I missed so far.

I hope you’ll like this weblog and will keep with me for a long time.

Steve
